About Us

Located in the heart of New York City, The Sixteenth Street Synagogue is a thriving Orthodox community that serves the Manhattan neighborhoods of Union Square, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Gramercy, and beyond. During the past six decades, multi-generational families, together with young professionals who have come to New York for school and training, have created a dynamic and vibrant community. This exciting mixture of people crosses all cultural, economic and professional lines and creates unique and rewarding opportunities for the long-time resident and the Jewish newcomer in the New York area.

On any given day you can see many men, women and children, from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a broad array of religious styles and approaches, all unified by a commitment to authentic Torah life and spirit.

The
Sixteenth Street Synagogue exemplifies the ideals of Modern Orthodoxy: Torah study and practice, together with an embrace of diversity and a participatory openness to the best of contemporary culture and community.
